iFixIt Does it Again, This Time to the iPhone 4

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 10:00 AM

"iFixIt's latest illustrated hardware teardown dissects the new Verizon variant of the iPhone 4, and company CEO Kyle Wiens says the internals of this CDMA iPhone 4 are more interesting than he had expected. He says everyone knew the external appearance of the CDMA iPhone 4 was changed slightly, but he had no idea how many differences were to be uncovered inside, amounting to a substantial redesign, with differences more significant than, for example, those between the iPhone 3G and the 3GS."

One of those changes that surprised him was the type of chip used, the same Qualcomm MDM6600 chip that supports GSM and DCMA technology. Could this be what is going to be in the iPhone 5? Is Apple preparing a "world phone" for the masses? Baby steps I suppose and putting this in a Verizon only phone was a good test for the configuration I'm sure. I don't doubt that this is the where the iPhone is heading, I guess the only question is how long is it going to take to get there? What are your thoughts?

iFixit Tears Down the MacBook Air

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Laptops" @ 04:00 AM

"If you were wondering about the components inside the new, second-generation MacBook Air - iFixIt has you covered. They took apart the 11.6-inch MacBook Air and documented their findings in copious detail."

You knew this was coming, and they aren't kidding when they say copious detail. The write up is three pages filled with photographs, beginning with what is in the box and then at each step of the tear down. It always amazes me how they are able to cram so much technology into such a small package. Interesting article if you have been wondering, like me, just how Apple was able to do it.

iFixit Tears Down the Touch, Nano and Shuffle

"There's a pretty immediate response these days--every time a shiny new gadget is announced, I wonder what the thing would look like unscrewed and pried apart. It makes me feel a bit like a gadget serial killer, to be perfectly honest--and I blame iFixIt."

iFixit had the trifecta, dismantling the iPod Touch, iPod Nano and iPod Shuffle. I always find these articles interesting, and especially this time with the Touch since they were able to make the device so thin. Amazing engineering.

Let's Look Inside Shall We?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 11:00 AM

http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iPad-Teardown/2183/

"We're taking apart Apple's all-new product, the iPad! We got a sneak peak inside the iPad yesterday, when we were able to un-redact the FCC's test photos. Be warned, however: what you see there is with a pre-production unit, while the photos here are from a unit purchased at retail."

This didn't take them long at all, but I guess these types of stories never do take long to show up.
